Why We Give
At Gunbarrel Baptist Church, we don't see giving as simply supporting a budget—we see it as taking part in the work God is doing through His church.
"The love of Christ controls us" (2 Corinthians 5:14–15). Because Jesus gave Himself for us, we joyfully offer back to Him our lives, our gifts, and our resources as acts of worship. We do not give to earn God's favor, but because we have already received His grace. Our generosity is simply one response to the immeasurable generosity Christ has first shown us.
The New Testament describes believers as partners in the gospel (Philippians 1:5). Every follower of Christ has a part to play as God builds His church. Some teach, some serve, some encourage, some lead, and all contribute according to the gifts and resources God has entrusted to them. As Paul reminds us in Ephesians 4, Christ grows His church as "each part is working properly," building the whole body up in love.
Giving is one way every member takes part in the work of the gospel. It is not simply about funding ministry—it is an opportunity to participate in the mission God has entrusted to His church.
As a church family, we want every member—from children learning generosity for the first time to lifelong believers who have faithfully given for decades—to see giving as an opportunity to worship Christ and participate together in His mission. Your generosity helps us proclaim the gospel, equip disciples, encourage believers, restore the broken, strengthen families, care for those in need, and reach our community with the hope of Jesus Christ. Every gift, whether large or small, is another way we labor together for the advance of the gospel.
Our example is Jesus Himself. "Though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9). Because of His grace, we desire to give freely, sacrificially, and joyfully—not reluctantly or under compulsion, "for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Finally, we believe giving is an act of worship between each believer and the Lord. For that reason, individual giving remains confidential. Our pastors do not know who gives or how much is given, and only those responsible for financial stewardship and record keeping have access to contribution records for accounting purposes.
